The Garden Club reconvened in September for a talk on Soils, by Anne Gleason of Anne Arundel Community College. Anne regaled us with information about the soil structure and reemphasized the importance of adding organic matter in the form of compost or mulch. We all enjoyed seeing one another again after the summer break. In October we had our annual Harvest Dinner, celebrating another summer of bounty. We were so happy to be joined by our honored guests, the Yard of the Month winners from the spring, summer, and fall. As usual, we all had a wonderful time ogling the plants for our raffle, and each member and guest went home with a new plant. In November, we heard an informative lecture from Master Gardener Lou Shell, on Composting in the Garden. Members learned about making and using compost tea, different ways to compost, and much more. And on the very last day of November, we had our last meeting of 2010, meeting for our yearly gift exchange and wreath-making, where we turn evergreen boughs from all our yards into two luscious evergreen wreaths that are displayed downtown at Lawyer’s Mall along with all the others, made by other area garden clubs. It was a wonderful year!
