August brings in the moonflowers, unfurling like delicate unbrellas each evening to emit their intoxicating fragrance. In the heat, the basil grows ready for harvest, and the dahlias bring on their enormous blooms. August is a quiet month for most gardeners. If one can bear the mosquitoes, there is always weeding and watering to be done. The rest of us simply swat, swim, and wait for September!
