A variety of cold-hardy seeds

At our January meeting, after a short business meeting and nibbling wonderful refreshments provided by three of our members, we adjourned to our Winter Sowing Workshop.  Members punched holes in the tops and bottoms of translucent containers recycled from our kitchens, and added seed-starting soil.  After wetting the soil, members added seeds from a variety flowering perennials and vegetables.  Each member took the boxes home to place in a sunny, outside location – yes, in the cold of winter!  By early February, most of us will have a box of gorgeous green seedlings germinating despite winter’s chill, a much needed promise of spring.

Looks like fun, doesn’t it?  Join us next January for another round of winter sowing!
